Wound Care Pump

The Invia ™ Liberty Pump by Medaxis delivers therapy confidence by intelligently controlling set pressure at the wound site.  The pump dynamically adapts the air flow cycle to both volume and viscosity of the fluid in the tubing to optimize exudate removal.

Important to the function of the pump is the integration of Pulse IoT smart technology, by Medshift, which enables the device to:

  • Monitor utilization data

  • Track device location, 24/7

  • Cellular connectivity with real time reporting

  • Enable pay-per-use models

  • Industrial Design & Mechanical Engineering

Speed worked in partnership with Medshift to design a protective housing that would protect the Pulse IoT PCB, providing dust and moisture protection, while at the same time matching the footprint, material, and aesthetics of the current pump on the market.  Our injection molding expertise allowed us to design a tool friendly, easy-to-maintenance design that fit both the PCB and antenna in a tight footprint.

  • Electronics Development

Speed worked with our partner Device Solutions on the design, development, and prototyping of the PCB (using Altium) to integrate the battery housing and a plug connector capable of plugging into the main pump unit through the injection molded housing.  A customized antenna design was also integrated into the unit.

  • Prototyping

Speed's ability to quickly integrate the housing and electronics design using 3D printed housings in RF friendly materials allowed for quick sampling of fully assembled units used for certification testing and for the manufacturer to develop their assembly process.

  • Design For Manufacturing

In our design process, the last step is to work through a DFM (Design for Manufacturing) phase to provide a BOM (Bill of Materials), CAD files, Gerber files, CMF (Colors, Materials, and Finishes), Assembly View, and 2D drawing package to get the manufacturer, in this case Vexos, off to solid start on ramping up production.
